Well folks, today’s batch has a little of everything: machines outsmarting humans, and a medical story that makes you double check the fine print. Nothing dystopian exactly, just enough to make you set down your coffee and say, “Huh.” Let’s take a look. — Doug Marlowe

At Stanford, researchers let an AI system named ARTEMIS loose on their networks to see what it could find. In just 10 hours, it spotted nine real security flaws, more than nine out of ten experienced human hackers working the same test. Over 16 hours, it combed through about 8,000 devices like it was reorganizing a messy garage. That matters because cybersecurity is one of those jobs we assumed would stay human for a while. Nearly 200 Children Linked to One Donor, And a Serious Gene

Scienceclock.com

A Danish sperm donor, identified only as “Kjeld,” has fathered at least 197 children across Europe. An investigation later found he carries a rare TP53 gene mutation tied to Li-Fraumeni syndrome, which can push lifetime cancer risk as high as 90 percent. The donor himself is healthy and reportedly unaware, since the mutation exists only in some of his sperm cells. The samples were distributed to 67 clinics in 14 countries over more than a decade. It’s the sort of story that makes you realize modern medicine is remarkable, and also very, very human.
